Google Analytics Certification

Google offers many services on its site, including free certifications. Using Google Partners certifications include Google Adwords and Google Analytics. As I am someone who is very active on social media and blog posts, I figured Google Analytics would be the best route to take as my first certification.

Google Analytics is a service offered by Google that can track website and social media activity. This is a great tool that can be used in Search Engine Optimization for a company or an individual person looking to expand their network. A few features in Google Analytics are e-commerce activity, review online campaigns, and identify poor performing pages. These are just a few features that come with Google Analytics. One of the main features offered by Google Analytics is return on investment and understanding of the online marketing strategy.

The process of getting certified is fairly easy. There are tutorial videos that will help in the studying for the certification exam. The exam consists of 70 questions and a 90 minutes timeframe to complete. With the appropriate amount of studying and preparation there should be no issue completing the exam in 90 minutes. My Google Analytics Certification is attached below.

These certifications are also great resume boosters.  After completing the exam, I added it to my resume and LinkedIn Profile to boost my credibility and the potential for future employers to see it. I also plan on getting certified in other Google Partners areas as well, including Mobile Advertising and Display Advertising. Getting certified in Google Partners will add to your knowledge of analytics and definitely benefit you in the future.

Upgrading my Resume

Grand Valley offers a great program at their Career Centers on both campus’s to sit down for 10 minutes and go over a resume. I visited the career center a few weeks ago to upgrade my very outdated resume.

They offered great suggestions including rearranging a few sections for an easier read and also to compress my work experience from one job into one section to make room for more important things. I also moved my education section to the top and deleted some extracurricular activities. This is a great tool to use during my search for internships and jobs in the future.

Networking at GVSU

Coming up on my last year at Grand Valley State University, it is important to get my name out there and especially look for Internships. After applying to numerous internships, with no luck, I wanted to be able to get myself out there even further in order to fulfill my goals.

I attended the GVSU Career Fair in February which assisted in my search for jobs and reach out to companies that I had applied to. I have attended the career fair in the past and had no such luck, however the most recent time I attended resulted in a couple interviews from potential employers.

Upgrading your Social Media Strategy

It can be hard sometimes to sent tweets out at the exact moment you want to. Days get busy and realize three hours you needed to send a tweet out for your business. Using Hootsuite, you can schedule tweets to go out whenever you want. This will help you save time in the future by scheduling tweets.

This new smarter technology gives you and/or your company time to plan out social media posts. Implementing a social media calendar on Hootsuite is very easy and will change the way that you or your company does social media management. Listed below are 5 scheduled tweets to go out on my personal twitter account within the next couple weeks.

Business Card

Using Adobe InDesign, I created a business card for my collegiate career. The front of the business card contains contact information and links to my profiles for the online version. I created a basic logo using Adobe Illustrator and dropped it into InDesign to use on the back of the business card.

This was not my first time using InDesign, although it was my first time making a business card. I realized that it is not that easy to make something look visually appealing. Using my creative appeal, I made my business card look minimalistic yet visually appealing.

WordPress SEO & Adobe Creative Cloud

Using the Google Adwords tool I searched for a variety of phrases that I have used in past WordPress blogs that are potential keyword searches. Although I am not using using a windows server 2016, these keywords were helpful in search engine optimization. Looking at WordPress SEO could also benefit in analytics and look at commonly used keywords. Google Analytics WordPress are very similar and could optimize the amount of searches that my blog gets using those commonly searched key words. A chart that represents the commonly used keywords can be easily represented using a software from the Adobe Suite and storing it in the Adobe Creativity Cloud.

The keywords I searched for and the Google recommended keywords are listed below with the average monthly searches represented next to it. I used keywords that were more specific to me, my personal brand, and my blog. I have a better understanding of what to use when it comes to search engine optimization.

Kasey Carpenter: 10-100

WordPress Photoshop: 10-100

Kasey WordPress: 0

Kaseys Creations: 0

Kasey Final Cut Pro: 0

WordPress: 1M-10M

Adobe Creative Cloud: 100k-1M

Windows Server 2016: 100k-1M

WordPress SEO: 10k-100k

Google Analytics WordPress: 10k-100k

Photoshopped Horizon

Last year I traveled to Sarasota, Florida and visited the sunset one evening. There were many people on the beach, especially standing close to the water that got in the way of the horizon. Using the Adobe Photoshop software, I removed the people and added a water color filter to the image to improve the quality. Using mainly the lasso tool and the stamp tool, it was easy to remove the people and fill in the missing space using the similar surrounding area. Once I got the hang of the software it was easy to navigate. There are a few tools that I am still playing around with and are harder to get the hang of but overall it is a moderately easy software to use.

A Day in the Life

Using Final Cut Pro, I created a video about the typical day in my life. I filmed the general things I do in my day to day life, including driving, work, running, and homework. This video was very fun to create. Once I got the hang of it, Final Cut is a fairly easy program to use. The story board below is also a representation of how I spend the majority of my days.

What Fuels my Energy

Carpenter, K. Piktochart. Retrieved from

I created an infographic using Piktochart to represent myself and what I am passionate about. The graphic above describes the four major activities and events that I love to do and really makes up who I am as a person. Each item is combined with a percentage which represents how much time and involvement I spend doing activities related to that category.

Infographics are a great way to display information, tips, and/or data in a clean and readable manner. It is also a great way to assist in paper advertisements and social media advertising. The website is very user friendly and directs the user through prompts to understand the application.
